SOCIAL
DOMAIN
Building social skills is a fundamental piece of a child’s development. As children progress from the toddler stage to the preschool/kindergarten age, they will begin interacting with more people outside of their family. Friends, classmates, and teachers may present challenges for children who are not used to interacting with groups of new people. In the home, parents, and caregivers can help their little ones practice and improve their social skills in many fun, age-appropriate ways. If your child has siblings or friends that they frequently play with, take a closer look at their interactions. See if there are any specific skills that they may need more practice with. Do they have trouble taking another person’s point of view? Are they struggling with resolving conflicts on their own? We chose a selection of activities that inject some positivity into these challenging conversations, and that you and your child can have fun with together.
